new tax for passengers in connecting flights

June 13, 2012 | By More

Anac, the official body responsible for civil aviation in Brazil, has put forward a proposal for a new tax of R$7 to be paid by all passengers in connecting flights. The new tax will be paid regardless of whether the flight is domestic or international but it won’t be paid by passengers making a stopover.

As it it the case now, you will pay the tax the moment you purchase your ticket. Smaller airports will raise a smaller fee. So allow for a slightly bigger budget if you’re planning to fly within Brazil. The future should bring higher taxes, a fear expressed by IATA recently. The organization believes the recent privatization of some major Brazilian airports will lead to further tax increases.
