Azul: on its way to Rio and Manaus

March 20, 2009 | By More

The new low-cost Azul got permission to fly to Santos Dumont airport in Rio and didn’t wait a second to set its expansion plan in motion.

Flights from Campinas (Viracopos) to Rio de Janeiro (Santos Dumont) begin today, 20 March. The number of flights will increase until 14 daily frequencies are offered on 16 April. Azul is offering promotional fares for R$39 one way (taxes not included) in March and R$79 in April.

We hadn’t seen prices like those since the near-demise of Varig. Let’s see for how long Azul can keep those fares, given that the Rio – São Paulo shuttle is the most valuable route for the Brazilian aviation sector.

Azul is also selling flights to Manaus for R$349.
