We saw three months ago how Azul, Gol and Tam had been reprimanded by the authorities for including on their sales websites pre-selected optional services (travel insurance). At the time we were quite happy that the authorities seemed to be doing something about this cunning trick.

It was with dismay that over the last weekend we discovered that at least two airlines, Azul and Tam, continue pre-selecting optional services. We don’t know whether that is still the case with Gol too as we didn’t purchase any tickets from them this time.

Since the authorities seem incapable of disciplining the airlines, all we can do is warn you so you don’t end up paying for a service you didn’t select. Check carefully the details for the fare you are paying and de-select those options you don’t want to purchase.

5 March is the deadline if you want to purchase the new edition of Azul’s “Passaporte”. The pass allows for unlimited flights during March and April (initially the pass was sold as being valid only for March; Azul suddely changed its mind and extended the period), with the exception of Fridays and Sundays.

The 2009 of the Passport had a cost of R$499. We presented it at Azul launches its Passport – beware of the restrictions!. The 2010 Passport is suffering from hyperinflation and will set you back R$899.

If the price is not a problem, go to Azul’s website and read carefully all the rules.

We bought the 2009 pass and were quite happy with our purchase. But with the new price it has become a far less appealling deal, at least to us.

Brazilian airlines Azul, Gol and Tam have been reprimanded by ANAC (the Brazilian civil aviation authority) for including on their sales websites pre-selected optional services (travel insurance). They will be allowed to offer those services but making it very clear they are optional. The customer will have to actively select the services should he wish to purchase them. It was time someone did something about this cunning trick played by the airlines!

Azul selling tickets for Goiania

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

Azul is selling tickets for its Campinas - Goiania flight, due to start on 3 March. Prices from R$ 119 one way. Azul is no longer launching its new routes with mega deals. The price it is charging is not much different from what you will find Gol is offering for January. For that reason we are no longer cheering each time Azul announces a new route. It is always good news for the consumer, but nothing like the way it used to be.

Azul is launching a new regular flight from Campinas (São Paulo) to Caldas Novas, on Sundays.

From the beginning of March, there will be new regular flights from Campinas to Goiânia. There will be at least three daily frequencies on each direction.

None of those flights are available for sale yet at Azul’s website.

Azul is trying to diversify its routes, avoiding the current unavoidable stopover at Viracopos Airport in Campinas. Azul is going to try and see how a direct flight Belo Horizonte / Salvador performs.

The route will operate as a charter flight during January. From 6 to 27 February it will become a weekly flight on Saturdays. It the route works out, it might become a regular flight.

The public car park at Viracopos Airport in Campinas has become a major headache for passengers. Run by Infraero, it is small, open-air and uncomfortable. Azul airlines has its hub in Viracopos and has signed an agreement with a car park nearby. Azul passengers can book their stay ahead and get a small reduction on the fee for the first 24 hours (R$25 instead of R$35). Additional days charged at R$22. There will be regular shuttle transport between the car park and the airport.

Azul, daily deals for the next fortnight

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

Brazilian newcomer Azul is one year old and to celebrate it, it will be running different daily promotions during the next fortnight.

Today’s promotion involves flights from and to Salvador. We haven’t found any prices we could call promotional and for that reason we urge you to compare Azul’s “deals” with the current prices offered by the competition (main Brazilian airlines). If (and only if) there is any extraordinary deal over the coming fortnight we’ll post about it here on the blog.
