Are two new Barcelona – São Paulo direct flights on the agenda? Last year we saw how Singapore Airlines had an eye on Brazil. El País newspaper reports today that the Spanish authorities have granted permission for the new connection between Spain and Barcelona, that should begin in the northern hemisphere’s spring of 2011 with three weekly frequencies. The flight will be a code-share with Spanish airline Spanair.

In the meantime, and also according to El País newspaper, Spanish airline Iberia is analyzing the viability of a direct BarcelonaSão Paulo flight.

Competition in the Spain-Brazil route should heat up in the coming months.
