promotions: consumers are not that stupid

August 17, 2009 | By More

From the point of view of the airlines, promotions are a cheap form of marketing. They appear on the media for free. Airlines also understand that any price below the full fare is already a promotion. Azul, for instance, launched during the weekend a “promotion” offering its usal fares.

It is a pity the airlines haven’t realized yet that consumers are smarter than they think. For consumers, promotions offer fares below the average offered by the airlines over the most recent period of time. This is not what we have seen during the “promotions” launched over the last weekends.

It is a serious mistake to treat consumers – loyal consumers in particular – as if they were idiots. We hope at least a few airlines will realize the mistake they are making, in the long run they’ve got everything to win.

On its part, the consumer needs to compare and analize before making any purchase.
