Israeli airline El Al plans three weekly flights from Tel Aviv to São Paulo from April 2009. The company is only awaiting for slots at Guarulhos airport – the very same airport that supposedly wasn’t going to be receiving new flights. São Paulo will be the first new destination for the company in 10 years.

Israel is an important destination for Brazilians tourists embarking on religious trips. The new flights should respond to that demand as well as the needs of the Jewish colony in Brazil.

Airport security with El Al is one of the most rigorous in the entire world. The new flight will inevitably mean additional security measures at Guarulhos airport.
