Delta begins flights to Manaus, Recife & Fortaleza; American reduces flights to Recife and Salvador

December 23, 2008 | By More

Delta‘s first flights from Atlanta to Manaus, Recife and Fortaleza began this week.

It is very encouraging to see new flights outside the Rio de Janeiro/São Paulo axis. But we fear a higher dollar and the worsening of the financial crisis in the USA might force American airlines to change their strategies.

American Airlines is reducing to 5 its number of weekly flights between Miami, Recife and Salvador. The change will come into effect on April 2009. The company argues the flight occupation is 60% against a 70% it had expected. The Diário de Pernambuco tells a story of passenger criticism: baggage lost, delays and problems with the aircraft – American is using older planes on the route.
