Copa and Avianca are the newest Star Alliance members
After protracted negotiations Copa and Avianca finally joined the Star Alliance. It’s been a long process as the Star Alliance still had hopes of maintaining Tam in the Alliance (with the integration of Tam and Lan that prospect is now gone).
The inexplicable fact is that Avianca Brasil hasn’t joined neither the Alliance nor Avianca/Copa’s frequenty flyer program, LifeMiles. There is no integration between the international flights to Brazil operated by Copa and Avianca and the domestic destinations flown by Avianca Brasil.
