agreement between Gol and American Airlines

July 7, 2009 | By More

Gol, owner of the Smiles mileage program, should be announcing shortly a partnership agreement with American Airlines. The agreement should include code-share flights and the association of the Smiles and Aadvantage frequent-flyer programs.

The details of the agreement haven’t emerged yet, but it should be good news for both the airlines. Gol will be able to offer more destinations to its passengers and more options to accumulate or spend the rewards earned by the users of its Smiles program. American, in turn, will reach more destinations in Brazil through Gol and Varig’s network, and Aadvantage associates will be able to accumulate rewards on domestic flights. The best thing is that regular fliers will not be able to tell much difference between the services offered by the partner airline – they are very much alike.
