As part of the neverending saga of announcements and cancellations, it is Air Europa’s turn to announce its return to the Madrid – Salvador de Bahia route from 31 October. The airline will operate three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. An Airbus A330-200 with capacity for 299 passengers will be used on the route.

Given its past record, we advice you to be very cautious when purchasing Air Europa tickets well in advance.

From 30 April Spanish airline Air Europa will no longer operate its Madrid to Salvador flight. The company promises it will return on 2 November but given its past record we would take this announcement with a pinch of salt.

Tap has just run a fare promotion for flights from Salvador to Spain. Hard to understand why the promotion was not widely announced. In any case, the reason for the deals offered now by Tap is the fact that Air Europa is offering fares from 660 USD (taxes excluded) to fly from Salvador to Madrid or Barcelona. Tariffs valid for purchases until 7 January 2010 and for flights between 17 December 2009 and 30 April 2010. Tap’s reign over the northeast is over, at least when Salvador is involved.

Air Europa

We’ve been talking about Air Europa’s return to Brazil for a while now (more details emerge of Air Europa’s return to Brazil). It has now been announced that the first flight will take place on 1 November. But we’ve been reading rumours that it might well be 17 December the date for the 1st flight. Can the company be trusted? We advise extreme care when purchasing tickets for a non-existing flight.

More details have emerged of Air Europa’s return to Brazil (we had made an initial announcement at Air Europa announces return to Salvador).

It would seem the flight, operated on an Boeing 767, would depart from London Gatwick, make a stop in Madrid and continue to Salvador. We await an official announcement. In the meantime, a reminder that Air Europa’s plans for Brazil need to be taken with a pinch of salt (caution: Air Europa announces it will no longer fly to Brazil).

Air Europa announces return to Salvador

Air Europa

Spanish airline Air Europa is announcing the return of its flights from Madrid to Salvador from 1 November 2009. The company is promising three weekly flights between Europe and Brazil. Air Europa stopped flying to Brazil in March. Let’s hope the announcement is confirmed and doesn’t turn into a saga similar to the Air China one.

Even after the announcement by Air Europa that it was to stop flying to Salvador (its only Brazilian destination left, caution: Air Europa announces it will no longer fly to Brazil), the authorities of the states of Bahía, Pernambuco and Ceará are dreaming of new flights operated by the airline. They want Air Europa to fly four times a week from Madrid to Salvador with a stop in Recife and twice a week with a stop in Fortaleza. To achieve that end the governments want to use public money to promote the flights. Now Air Europa needs to be guaranteed a minimum amount of money.

The hard thing will be to reach an agreement with a company that is constantly changing its mind.

The state of Bahia is celebrating the code share flights Iberia will have with Iberworld, once a week, starting on 3 February.

The Northeast, that has much more to offer than sex tourism, it needs to get their act together to give a proper welcome to international tourists, offering security, adequate tourist information and a range of prices that make those flights feasible. For the European tourist today, it is much more convenient to fly to Asia than to Brazil.

It is worth remembering that the occupation of the Salvador/Recife/Miami fllight is below its expectations, although in this case American Airlines is partly to blame, its flight is making the headlines day after day, with constant cancellations and problems with luggage.
